ADR Dangerous Goods Training

A workplace risk assessment is a systematic examination of your work activities, premises and processes to identify what could cause harm to people — and whether you're doing enough to prevent it. Under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 (MHSWR), every employer must carry out a suitable and sufficient assessment of the risks to the health and safety of their employees and anyone else who may be affected by their work activities.

If you have five or more employees, the significant findings of your risk assessment must be recorded in writing. But regardless of your size, risk assessment is the foundation of every health and safety management system — without it, you're managing safety blind.

RADCaT's qualified health and safety consultants carry out thorough, practical workplace risk assessments for businesses of every size and sector across the UK. We don't produce generic templates — we visit your premises, walk your processes, talk to your team and produce site-specific, task-specific assessments that genuinely reflect your operations and give you a clear, prioritised action plan for improvement.

Whether you need a general workplace risk assessment for your office, a task-specific assessment for high-risk activities in a factory, a site-wide review for a multi-building campus, or a pre-project risk assessment for a construction site — RADCaT delivers expert, HSE-compliant assessments tailored to your industry and your operations.

DVSA checks driver training certificates at the roadside. If your drivers can't produce evidence of ADR awareness training, the vehicle can be prohibited and the driver and operator face enforcement action.

Our Process

How We Carry Out a Risk Assessment

1

Training Needs Analysis

We assess your operation, identify who needs training, at what level and for which transport modes. We review your substances, roles and regulatory requirements.

2

Course Development

Training content is tailored to your specific dangerous goods, your operations and the roles of your delegates. Not generic — built around your actual daily activities.

3

On-Site Delivery

Our trainer delivers at your depot, warehouse or office at a time that suits your schedule. All materials, handouts and presentation equipment provided.

4

Assessment & Certification

Delegates are assessed and receive training certificates documenting the content covered and the date of training. Records provided for your DGSA annual report.

5

Refresher Programme

We schedule refresher training to ensure ongoing compliance as regulations change. ADR is amended biennially — your team needs to stay current.

Common Questions

ADR Training FAQ

Who needs ADR training?

Anyone whose duties concern the carriage of dangerous goods by road — drivers, loaders, packers, warehouse staff handling DG, office staff preparing transport documents and managers responsible for DG operations. ADR Chapter 1.3 requires general awareness, function-specific and safety training for all these roles.

How often is refresher training needed?

ADR 1.3.2.4 requires periodic refresher training. Best practice is every 2 years aligned with ADR biennial amendments. Refresher training should also be provided when an individual's role changes or new substances are introduced to your operation.

Do you deliver training at our premises?

Yes. We deliver all ADR training on-site at your depot, warehouse or office anywhere in the UK. On-site delivery means less disruption to your operations and allows us to use your actual substances and documentation as training examples.

Is this the same as a Driver CPC course?

No. ADR awareness training under Chapter 1.3 is a separate legal requirement from Driver CPC. However, ADR awareness modules can sometimes count toward Driver CPC periodic training hours. RADCaT can advise on how to maximise training value across both requirements.

Do you provide certificates?

Yes. Every delegate receives a training certificate documenting the course content, date and assessor. These certificates should be carried by drivers and retained by the employer as evidence of compliance for DVSA and HSE inspections.

Can you train for specific substance types?

Absolutely. We tailor training to your specific dangerous goods — whether that's ADR Class 3 flammable liquids, Class 8 corrosives, Class 9 lithium batteries, clinical waste, LPG, agricultural chemicals or any other classification. Your team learns about the actual substances they handle.

How much does ADR training cost?

Priced per session rather than per delegate, making it cost-effective for groups. Includes all materials, certification and tailored content. Contact us for a quote based on your delegate numbers and training requirements.
