Common Questions

Health & Safety FAQ

Do I legally need a health and safety risk assessment?

Yes. Under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, every employer must carry out a suitable and sufficient assessment of the risks to the health and safety of their employees and anyone else affected by their work activities. If you have five or more employees, the significant findings must be recorded in writing. RADCaT can carry out these assessments on your behalf and provide the documented evidence you need.

What is a COSHH assessment and does my business need one?

COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) assessments are required for any business that uses, handles or stores substances that could cause harm — including chemicals, paints, adhesives, cleaning products, dusts and fumes. The assessment identifies what hazardous substances are present, who might be exposed, and what control measures are needed to prevent ill health. Most businesses require at least some COSHH assessments.

How often should health and safety assessments be reviewed?

Risk assessments should be reviewed whenever there are significant changes to your workplace, equipment, processes or staff, or if an incident occurs that suggests the assessment is no longer adequate. As a best practice, we recommend a formal annual review of all assessments. RADCaT offers retained support packages that include scheduled review visits to keep your assessments current and compliant.

Can you provide a health and safety consultant on a retained basis?

Absolutely. Many of our clients use RADCaT as their outsourced health and safety department on a retained basis. This gives you access to a qualified consultant for regular site visits, ongoing policy development, legislative updates, incident investigation support and priority telephone advice — at a fraction of the cost of employing a full-time safety officer.

What industries do you provide health and safety consultancy for?

We provide health and safety consultancy across all industries including manufacturing, warehousing, distribution, transport and logistics, construction, education, care homes, hospitality, retail, offices and charities. Our consultants have real-world experience in each sector and tailor every assessment and recommendation to the specific hazards and regulations relevant to your industry.

Do you provide health and safety training as well as consultancy?

Yes. We deliver a wide range of accredited health and safety training courses including Fire Awareness, Manual Handling, Working at Height, First Aid at Work, COSHH Awareness, IOSH Managing Safely and many more. Training can be delivered at our Wigan training centre or on-site at your premises anywhere in the UK. We also offer e-learning options for certain courses.

How much does a health and safety risk assessment cost?

Costs depend on the size and complexity of your business, the number of sites, and the types of assessment required. We offer competitive rates and always provide a clear, no-obligation quote before any work begins. Contact us for a free initial consultation and we'll discuss your requirements and provide a tailored proposal.
