Explore HR ServicesHealth & Safety
Every employer has a legal duty under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 to protect the health, safety and welfare of their employees. For office-based SMEs this means workplace risk assessments, DSE (Display Screen Equipment) assessments for all screen users, fire risk assessments, first aid provision, accident reporting procedures and a written health and safety policy (mandatory for 5+ employees). For SMEs with operational staff, add manual handling, COSHH, working at height and equipment safety. We make it straightforward.
Explore H&S ServicesGDPR & Data Protection
Every business that collects customer, client or employee data must comply with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. For SMEs this means privacy notices on your website, cookie consent, marketing consent for email lists, data retention policies, staff training on data handling, processor agreements with third-party services (CRM, payroll, cloud storage) and procedures for handling subject access requests and data breaches. We provide compliance audits, documentation, training and optional external DPO appointment.
Explore GDPR ServicesFire Safety
Every business premises requires a fire risk assessment under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 — even a small office. We assess your premises for fire hazards, evaluate escape routes, check fire detection and alarm systems, review fire extinguisher provision, develop evacuation procedures and fire marshall organisation, and deliver staff fire awareness training. For multi-storey offices, shared buildings and premises with disabled access requirements, we develop specific evacuation strategies including PEEPs.
Explore Fire SafetyDSE Assessments
If your staff use computers, laptops or tablets as a significant part of their work, you're legally required to carry out DSE (Display Screen Equipment) assessments under the Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992. With the rise of hybrid and remote working, this now extends to home workstation setups too. We assess screen position, seating, lighting, desk height and posture — and provide practical recommendations to prevent eye strain, back pain, neck pain and repetitive strain injuries.
Explore DSE ServicesCybersecurity Awareness
SMEs are increasingly targeted by cybercriminals — phishing emails, ransomware, business email compromise and social engineering attacks. Many SMEs lack basic cyber hygiene, making them soft targets. We deliver cybersecurity awareness training for your staff covering phishing recognition, password security, multi-factor authentication, safe browsing, suspicious email handling and what to do if they suspect a breach. We also advise on Cyber Essentials certification for businesses tendering for government contracts.
Explore Cyber TrainingScaling Compliance as You Grow
As your business grows, your compliance obligations expand. At 5 employees you need a written H&S policy. At certain thresholds new employment rights kick in. Opening new premises triggers fresh fire risk assessments. Hiring remote workers requires home DSE assessments. Taking on contractors raises IR35 questions. RADCaT scales with you — our packages flex to match your headcount, premises and risk profile, ensuring you're always compliant at every stage of growth without overpaying for services you don't yet need.

SME & Corporate Compliance FAQ
What compliance does my small business legally need?
At minimum: written statements of employment particulars for every employee from day one (Employment Rights Act 1996), a fire risk assessment (Fire Safety Order 2005), employer's liability insurance, workplace risk assessments (Health and Safety at Work Act 1974), a written health and safety policy if you have 5+ employees, and UK GDPR compliance for any personal data you process. Missing any of these creates legal exposure. RADCaT's compliance health check identifies exactly what you need based on your specific business.
How much does outsourced compliance cost for an SME?
Our SME packages are designed to be significantly cheaper than hiring in-house. A typical retained package for a business with 10-50 employees covering HR advice, employment documentation, health and safety, fire safety and GDPR compliance costs a fraction of a single full-time salary. We offer flexible packages — pay-as-you-go hourly advice, project-based pricing for specific tasks, or comprehensive annual retainers. Contact us for a free health check and tailored quote.
Do I need employment contracts for all my staff?
Yes. Under the Employment Rights Act 1996 (as amended), every employee and worker must receive a written statement of employment particulars on or before their first day of work. This must include key terms such as pay, hours, holiday, notice periods, job title and place of work. Failing to provide this is a breach of employment law and can result in an additional tribunal award of 2-4 weeks' pay. RADCaT drafts compliant contracts for every role in your business.
What GDPR compliance do SMEs need?
Every business processing personal data needs: a privacy notice on your website, cookie consent, a data retention policy, staff training on data handling, data processor agreements with third parties (payroll, CRM, cloud services), procedures for subject access requests and data breaches, and records of processing activities. For businesses doing email marketing, you also need demonstrable consent under PECR. RADCaT provides a full GDPR audit and all required documentation.
Do I need a fire risk assessment for my office?
Yes. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires every business premises — including offices, shops, warehouses and shared buildings — to have a suitable and sufficient fire risk assessment. The "responsible person" (usually the employer or building manager) must ensure it's carried out, review it regularly and act on its findings. Even a small office needs one. RADCaT carries out fire risk assessments for offices and business premises of all sizes.
Can you help if we're facing a tribunal claim?
Yes. We provide comprehensive support for employment tribunal proceedings including ACAS early conciliation responses, ET3 preparation, witness statement drafting, bundle compilation, settlement negotiation advice and hearing preparation. We handle unfair dismissal, discrimination, whistleblowing and breach of contract claims. While we're not solicitors, our practical HR expertise and tribunal experience means we guide you effectively through the process. For businesses without existing contracts or procedures, we also help you put the right foundations in place to prevent future claims.
What about hybrid and remote workers?
Hybrid and remote working creates specific compliance obligations. You need a remote working policy, DSE assessments for home workstations, clear expectations around working hours and availability, data security for home-based data processing, and updated employment contracts reflecting the hybrid arrangement. We also advise on the right to request flexible working (now a day-one right under the Employment Relations (Flexible Working) Act 2023) and managing hybrid teams fairly.
