User Identification
We identify all "defined users" — employees who use display screen equipment as a significant part of their normal work, whether office-based, hybrid or fully remote.
Workstation Assessment
Each workstation is assessed for screen position, chair setup, desk height, peripheral placement, lighting, glare, temperature and individual posture. Written findings for each user.
Recommendations
Specific, practical recommendations for each workstation — adjustments, new equipment, layout changes or ergonomic accessories. Priority-rated from quick wins to capital investment.
Implementation Support
Guidance on implementing recommendations, sourcing equipment and adjusting setups. We can return to verify changes have been made and reassess where needed.
Ongoing Compliance
Scheduled reassessment when workstations, roles or individuals change. New starter assessments. Annual review programme for retained clients.
DSE Assessments FAQ
Who counts as a DSE user?
Anyone who uses display screen equipment as a significant part of their normal work — typically daily, for continuous periods of an hour or more. This includes office workers, call centre staff, designers, programmers, receptionists and anyone regularly using a computer, laptop or tablet. Occasional users may not qualify but should still have good workstation setup.
Do I need to assess home workers?
Yes. If employees work from home using display screen equipment, you have the same DSE assessment obligation as for office workstations. Many employers have neglected this since the shift to hybrid working. RADCaT provides home worker assessments via on-site visit or structured remote assessment.
Do I have to pay for glasses for screen users?
If a DSE user requests an eye test, you must arrange and pay for it. If the test shows they need glasses specifically for DSE work (not general prescription), you must pay for a basic pair suitable for the purpose. You don't have to pay for designer frames or varifocals unless specifically prescribed for DSE use.
How often should DSE assessments be reviewed?
When workstations, equipment, roles or working patterns change. When an employee reports discomfort. When new starters join. Best practice is annual review. RADCaT provides scheduled reassessment for retained clients.
Can you assess hot-desking and shared workstations?
Yes. Hot-desking requires assessable, adjustable workstations that each user can adapt to their needs. We assess the adjustability of shared setups and provide guidance cards so each user can achieve correct positioning when they sit down.
What about multi-monitor setups?
We assess multi-screen configurations for correct positioning — distance, height, angle and arrangement. Common issues include neck rotation, focal distance variation between screens and glare from different angles. Specific setup guidance provided.
How much does a DSE assessment cost?
Based on the number of workstations and whether they are office-based or remote. Volume discounts for large rollouts. Contact us for a free consultation and pricing.
