Fire Awareness Training FAQ
Is fire training legally required?
Yes. The RRO 2005 requires the responsible person to ensure adequate fire safety training. This includes training on recruitment, when risks change and periodic refresher training. Fire authority inspectors check training records.
How often should fire training be refreshed?
The RRO doesn't specify a frequency, but best practice is annual refresher for all staff. New starters should receive fire awareness during induction. Fire marshalls should receive enhanced training annually.
What is the difference between fire awareness and fire marshall?
Fire awareness is for all staff — understanding risks, raising the alarm, evacuation. Fire marshall training is enhanced training for designated fire wardens covering sweep procedures, evacuation management, assisting disabled persons and fire authority liaison.
Do you include practical extinguisher training?
Where safe and appropriate, yes. We demonstrate extinguisher types and correct operation using training extinguishers. This builds confidence — many staff have never used an extinguisher and would hesitate in a real emergency.
Can you train our care home staff?
Yes. Care home fire training covers progressive horizontal evacuation (moving residents to the next fire compartment rather than full building evacuation), PEEPs for residents with mobility or cognitive impairment, night-time procedures with reduced staffing and oxygen cylinder management.
Do you provide certificates?
Yes. Every delegate receives a fire training certificate. Records for your fire safety file and evidence for fire authority inspectors.
